OMAHA, Neb. – Patchy fog reduced visibility to two miles in parts of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa early Thursday morning, and the quiet start to the day will give way to a stormier stretch heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, showers and thunderstorms will begin moving in from the west Friday afternoon and persist through at least Monday. Rain chances climb sharply for northeast Nebraska Saturday evening, reaching 50 to 70 percent overnight before spreading across eastern Nebraska into Sunday morning.

The strongest storms are expected late Saturday, with heavy rainfall and frequent lightning possible from Norfolk through Omaha and into western Iowa. Roads such as Interstate 80 and Highway 75 could see slick travel conditions, especially overnight into Sunday. Power outages may occur in stronger cells, and residents are urged to charge devices and secure outdoor items by Saturday evening.

Conditions stay unsettled through Monday before drier, cooler weather builds back in by midweek. The Weather Service noted additional updates and advisories may be issued if storm organization increases.
