Omaha, Neb. – Drivers in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa may face dangerous travel conditions early Wednesday as patchy dense fog settles across the region, especially near and east of the Missouri River. Visibility could drop below a half-mile in some areas, slowing the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the fog is expected to develop overnight and persist into Wednesday morning. The greatest impact zone stretches from Nebraska City to Sioux City, including Omaha, Fremont, and Tekamah, with similar conditions possible in western Iowa towns such as Denison and Atlantic.
Motorists are urged to use low beam headlights, increase following distances, and listen carefully for oncoming traffic before turning. Local emergency officials caution that sudden drops in visibility may occur, particularly along river valleys and low-lying areas.
The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning Wednesday, but drivers should remain alert until conditions improve. Additional overnight fog patches are possible later this week if winds remain light.
