Southwest Illinois & Southeast Missouri Fog Advisory: Hazardous Travel From 3AM Until 9AM

St. Louis, MO – The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis has issued a Dense Fog Advisory from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, warning of reduced visibility across portions of southwest Illinois and southeast Missouri.

According to the NWS, visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog, creating hazardous travel conditions during the early-morning commute.

In Illinois, the advisory includes Bond, Fayette, Clinton, Marion, Washington, Randolph, St. Clair, and Monroe counties, while in Missouri it covers Jefferson, Washington, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Iron, Madison, and Reynolds counties.

Communities affected include Belleville, Cahokia, Chester, Sparta, Centralia, Vandalia, Salem, Farmington, and Ste. Genevieve.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, use headlights, and maintain safe following distances when traveling. Fog is expected to lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise, improving visibility across the region.
