Southwest Idaho Weather: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Up to 6″ Snow in Mountains 2PM Until 8PM

Boise, ID – The National Weather Service in Boise has issued a Wind Advisory for much of southwest Idaho this afternoon as two cold fronts move through the region, bringing rain, snow, and strong gusty winds.

According to the NWS Boise, the first cold front brought widespread rain early Saturday, while a second, stronger system will arrive later in the day with showers, isolated thunderstorms, and wind gusts reaching 45–50 MPH between 2 PM and 8 PM MDT.

Rain totals are expected to range from 0.25 to 1 inch across the Treasure Valley, while higher elevations in the West Central Mountains and Stanley area could see 4–6 inches of snow through Tuesday morning.

Winds will be strongest in open valleys and along the Snake River Plain, including Boise, Mountain Home, and Twin Falls, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles. Temperatures are also expected to drop significantly behind the front, ushering in cooler, fall-like conditions through the weekend.

Drivers are urged to use caution on mountain passes and check local travel updates from 511.idaho.gov for the latest road conditions.
