Boise, Idaho – Southwest Idaho is staring down a stretch of extreme heat this week, with temperatures climbing close to 100 degrees through Friday and little overnight relief. The National Weather Service warns that hot, dry conditions will push highs to 98° Tuesday and near 100° by Friday.
According to the agency, winds shifting northwest late Tuesday could stir patchy smoke across the Boise Valley between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., reducing visibility in spots before skies clear overnight. Daytime highs Wednesday and Thursday will stay in the mid-90s, with dry air and breezy winds elevating fire danger across Ada, Canyon, and Elmore counties.
Boise, Meridian, and Nampa residents should limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors as heat index values climb. Pets and children should never be left in vehicles, even for a few minutes.
Overnight lows in the mid-60s to upper-60s will offer only modest relief, raising concerns for those without air conditioning. Emergency officials advise using cooling centers and delaying outdoor work when possible.
The heat wave is expected to persist into the weekend, with only minor cooling by early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if temperatures remain above seasonal averages.
