Boise, Idaho – Rain will spread across southwest Idaho overnight, but drivers heading into the mountains could face snow-covered roads by early Thursday as colder air moves in.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a cold front will push through late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, bringing valley rain and mountain snow. Snow levels will start above 6,000 feet before dropping to between 4,000 and 5,000 feet by early Thursday.

Higher elevations, including Bogus Basin and Banner Summit, could see 6 to 8 inches of snow, with several inches possible overnight into Thursday morning. Tamarack and McCall areas may also pick up 2 to 6 inches, creating slick travel conditions on mountain roads.

In lower elevations, including Boise, Nampa, and Mountain Home, rainfall totals around a half inch are expected, with no significant snow accumulation.

Drivers traveling through mountain passes should prepare for changing conditions, including reduced visibility and slushy or snow-covered roads. Carrying traction devices and checking Idaho 511 road conditions is recommended.

Conditions are expected to improve later Thursday, but lingering snow in higher elevations could continue to impact travel through the morning hours.
