Boise, ID – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase Thursday across southwest Idaho and southeast Oregon, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and cooler conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, rain will be most widespread Thursday, October 2, with the highest chances occurring in the mountains of southwest Idaho. Some areas, including Lowman, Idaho City, and Atlanta, could see between 1 and 1.5 inches of rainfall by Friday morning.

Treasure Valley cities, including Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell, have a 70–80% chance of rain through Thursday evening, while southeast Oregon locations such as Burns Junction, Jordan Valley, and McDermitt also carry a 70% or higher probability of precipitation. Excessive rainfall in higher terrain may lead to localized runoff issues, especially in narrow mountain passes and backcountry roads.

High temperatures will remain below normal, topping out in the upper 60s to low 70s across valley locations, while mountain areas will see highs in the low 60s. Thursday’s storm system may also impact commuters with wet roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the morning and evening drive times.

The Weather Service advises residents to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for potential travel delays. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to use caution in the mountains, where heavier rainfall is expected.

This storm system is expected to gradually move out by late Friday, leaving behind cooler-than-average conditions heading into the weekend.
