Albany, Ga. – Residents along the Georgia-Florida line face a heightened flood threat through 2 a.m. Sunday as slow-moving thunderstorms dump heavy rain across the region. Roads could quickly become impassable, especially in Albany, Tifton, Fitzgerald, and surrounding communities in southwest Georgia.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Peachtree City and Tallahassee, a stalled front is fueling repeated rounds of showers and storms this weekend. Widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected, with localized amounts topping 4 inches in areas where storms stall. Forecasters warn that flash flooding could develop rapidly in creeks, streams, and low-lying city streets.

Southwest Georgia carries the greatest risk of flooding Saturday afternoon into the evening, but the threat extends into central and eastern Georgia as well, including Macon, Dublin, and Augusta. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, even familiar routes, as washed-out pavement may be hidden beneath moving water.

The flood watch remains in effect until early Sunday morning, with additional alerts possible if storms linger. Residents should stay alert for warnings and be prepared to adjust travel plans.
