Cortez, Colorado — Residents across southwest Colorado should brace for strong, gusty winds through Saturday as a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MDT, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. Winds from the southwest will increase to 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph possible across the Four Corners region, including Cortez, Dove Creek, Mancos, and Mesa Verde National Park.
The strongest winds are expected along exposed ridgelines and open valleys, where blowing dust and reduced visibility may affect travel on Highways 160 and 491. High-profile vehicles, particularly RVs and trucks, should use caution.
Loose outdoor objects should be secured, and tree limbs may break in stronger gusts, potentially causing isolated power outages. Winds will ease toward evening as a cooler, drier air mass moves in.
