Durango, Colorado – Snow will begin falling across southwest Colorado by 11 p.m. tonight, coating highways before the Friday morning commute and continuing through Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. tonight until 11 p.m. Friday for the Four Corners region, including the Animas River Basin and San Juan River Basin. Snow totals between 3 and 6 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph that could create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Travel impacts will stretch from Cortez and Dove Creek to Durango, Bayfield and Pagosa Springs. U.S. Highway 160 over Wolf Creek Pass and U.S. 550 north of Durango could become snow-packed and slick overnight. Roads near Mesa Verde National Park and Towaoc may see drifting in open areas where winds are strongest.
CDOT crews will treat major corridors, but drivers should plan for slower travel and allow extra stopping distance. Officials recommend checking road conditions by calling 511 before heading out and avoiding unnecessary travel during heavier bursts of snow Friday morning and late afternoon.
Snow is expected to taper late Friday night, though icy patches may linger into early Saturday. Additional advisories could follow if bands redevelop across the region.
