Pagosa Springs, CO – A Flood Watch remains in effect for southwest Colorado through Tuesday morning, October 14, as steady rain and runoff continue to raise water levels along the Animas and San Juan River basins, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Forecasters say the Animas River could crest near 10.9 feet early Tuesday morning, slightly above the 10.5-foot flood stage, before receding later in the day. As of Sunday morning, the river measured 9.6 feet, already near bankfull levels.

Flooding could impact low-lying neighborhoods and roads near Pagosa Springs, including Hermosa Street and areas surrounding the River Center shopping complex. The nearby Southwest San Juan Mountains may also see localized flooding from runoff and saturated soils.

Residents living near waterways are urged to monitor updates and prepare to move to higher ground if conditions worsen. Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to cross moving water.
