Texarkana, AR – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Watch #624 for southwest Arkansas, effective until 9 p.m. CDT Saturday, as strong storms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds move through the region.

According to the NWS, the watch includes the following Arkansas counties: Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, and Sevier.

Communities under the watch include Texarkana, Hope, Magnolia, Nashville, and Ashdown. Meteorologists warn that storms forming along a cold front could strengthen through the evening, creating an environment favorable for tornado development.

Forecasters say the main threats include tornadoes, hail up to 1 inch, and wind gusts as high as 70 mph. The highest risk will occur during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, have multiple ways to receive Tornado Warnings, and seek safe shelter immediately if a warning is issued.

This Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT for southwest Arkansas, including the Texarkana–AR region and surrounding counties.
