Phoenix, AZ – Residents across southeast California and southwest Arizona can expect increasing clouds and scattered showers from Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix.
Forecasters said rain chances are expected to expand into south-central Arizona by Sunday evening, with more activity likely overnight into Monday morning. “Rainfall amounts should overall be fairly light through Monday,” NWS officials reported.
The weather system stems from a low-pressure area off the California coast, which is promoting shower development across portions of the Desert Southwest. Forecast models suggest accumulations will generally remain under 0.10 inches, keeping totals minimal despite the widespread nature of the showers.
The impacts for Arizona residents could include isolated thunderstorms and slick road conditions, particularly during the morning commute on Monday. Motorists are urged to use caution, as wet pavement could increase the risk of accidents.
While rainfall totals are expected to be low, the unsettled pattern may bring brief downpours in some spots. Those with outdoor plans late Sunday or Monday morning may want to keep rain gear handy and allow for extra travel time.
