MADISON, Wis. – A crisp fall chill will grip southern Wisconsin tonight as clear skies and light winds send temperatures tumbling toward the freezing mark, prompting a Frost Advisory for early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Thursday for Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock, and Sauk Counties, including Madison, Janesville, Monroe, Baraboo, and Dodgeville. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 31°F, leading to widespread frost formation in rural and sheltered areas.
Sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left unprotected. Residents are urged to cover tender plants, move potted flowers indoors, and disconnect garden hoses before bedtime. According to Wisconsin Emergency Management, the coldest readings are expected in valleys and open farmland west of I-39 and along the Wisconsin River Valley.
Drivers may encounter frosted windshields and patchy fog around sunrise Thursday. Conditions will improve by midmorning as sunshine returns, bringing a bright but cool fall afternoon.
According to the NWS, additional frost is possible again Friday morning before a gradual warmup arrives this weekend, keeping nights chilly but days seasonably mild.
