Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across southern Wisconsin this afternoon, with damaging winds over 60 mph possible between 1 and 7 p.m., threatening travel and outdoor activities from Madison to the Lake Michigan shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, storms will begin developing west of I-39 around noon, intensifying between 2 and 5 p.m. as they move eastward toward I-41 and lakeshore counties like Sheboygan, Milwaukee, and Racine. The window for damaging winds and heavy downpours will peak between 4 and 7 p.m. in eastern Wisconsin.
Communities along the I-94 corridor, including Waukesha, West Bend, and Port Washington, should prepare for possible downed trees, power outages, and flooded streets. Emergency managers advise charging devices now, securing outdoor items, and delaying non-essential travel until after the system moves out this evening.
A brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out, especially in areas where storms bow out or spin briefly along the line. Storms are expected to exit over Lake Michigan after 7 p.m., with isolated showers lingering into the evening hours.
⚠️ Storm warnings remain in effect through Wednesday evening. Updates will follow as conditions evolve.
