MADISON, Wis. – A Frost Advisory is in effect for much of southern Wisconsin through 9 a.m. Thursday as overnight lows dip to near freezing. Residents from Dane to Lafayette counties are being urged to protect plants and sensitive vegetation ahead of the coldest night of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, temperatures could fall as low as 33 degrees between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday, creating widespread frost formation. The advisory covers Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock, and Sauk counties.

Gardeners and farmers are advised to cover tender crops or bring outdoor plants indoors to prevent damage. The NWS warns that unprotected plants may not survive the chill, especially in rural and low-lying areas where frost tends to settle first.

Drivers may also encounter light frost on windshields early Thursday, though roads are not expected to be icy. Skies are expected to clear by late morning as temperatures rebound into the 50s.

Additional advisories are possible later this week if cool overnight conditions continue. Residents should monitor local forecasts for updates from the NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan office.
