Milwaukee, Wis. – Repeated rounds of thunderstorms Saturday evening could unleash enough rain to trigger flash flooding across southern and eastern Wisconsin, prompting a Flood Watch through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, areas including Dane, Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Fond du Lac counties are at risk beginning 4 p.m. Saturday. Urban flooding is a key concern, with ponding on roadways, overwhelmed storm drains, and high water on creeks and streams likely overnight.
Heavy rainfall rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas and neighborhoods with poor drainage. Commuters and late-night travelers should avoid water-covered roads and monitor local alerts closely. Power outages and minor road washouts could also occur where rainfall is most intense.
In Kenosha County, the Fox River near New Munster is expected to rise to flood stage by Monday evening, possibly impacting homes along Shorewood Drive, Riverside Drive, and Highway W in the Village of Salem Lakes and Town of Wheatland.
The immediate storm threat should ease Sunday morning, but flood warnings may linger into next week. Residents should prepare for ongoing alerts and check river forecasts if living near affected waterways.
