Madison, WI – Drivers across southern Wisconsin woke up to hazardous travel conditions Saturday morning as dense fog settled over the region. The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory for multiple counties, in effect until 8 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office, the advisory covers Dane, Green, Iowa, Rock, Jefferson, Walworth, and Waukesha counties. Visibility in these areas dropped to a quarter mile or less overnight, creating dangerous conditions for morning commuters.
The advisory includes major population centers such as Madison, Janesville, Beloit, Waukesha, and Lake Geneva, as well as key roadways including I-39/90 and I-94. Drivers were urged to reduce speed, keep headlights on, and leave extra space between vehicles.
Fog is expected to lift gradually after sunrise, with conditions improving mid-morning. No additional weather hazards are forecast for the remainder of the day.
The National Weather Service emphasized that even short local drives could be affected by the thick fog patches. Motorists planning early weekend travel were advised to use caution until the advisory expires.
