La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers across western and southern Wisconsin should prepare for multiple rounds of snow that could complicate travel from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening, with the most impactful conditions developing overnight and again late Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, two distinct snow rounds are expected. The first arrives Tuesday evening and continues through the overnight hours, producing the higher totals. A narrow band of heavier snow is expected along and south of Highway 18, where 2 to 4 inches may accumulate by Wednesday morning.
Statewide, the overnight snowfall is likely to create slick conditions on major routes including Interstate 90 and Highway 53, especially during the Wednesday morning commute. Communities such as La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, Platteville and parts of southwest Wisconsin are most likely to see the highest totals from the first round.
A second round develops Wednesday afternoon, bringing lighter snowfall of up to around an inch before tapering off Wednesday evening. While accumulations will be lower, gusty winds could lead to reduced visibility and localized blowing snow during the afternoon and early evening commute.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time and monitor road conditions closely. Officials note that snow placement could still shift slightly, and additional updates or advisories may be issued as both rounds move through the region.
