Milwaukee, Wis. – Commuters across southern Wisconsin could run into patchy but dense fog early Tuesday, with the thickest areas forming near lakes, rivers, and low-lying spots. Visibility may suddenly drop below a mile in some locations, especially west of the Kettle Moraine, making morning travel more challenging.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, fog began developing overnight and will linger until shortly after sunrise. Drivers in cities including Madison, Janesville, Fond du Lac, and Milwaukee should prepare for abrupt changes in visibility, particularly on stretches of highway near marshes or open water.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation advises motorists to use low beam headlights, allow for extra space between vehicles, and add a few minutes to the morning drive. Areas like Racine, Kenosha, and Waukesha may also experience pockets of thicker fog, though conditions are expected to improve rapidly as the sun rises.
This fog event is expected to remain brief, with clearer skies returning by mid-morning. Another update will be issued if conditions worsen or persist beyond sunrise.
