Charleston, WV – After a mostly dry Monday for much of northern West Virginia, a stronger storm system will bring widespread rain across the state starting Tuesday night and lasting through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Forecasters say areas north of Interstate 64 will remain mostly dry today, while southern regions could see light rain and scattered showers. By late Tuesday, a more organized system will move in from the west, spreading steady rain across the state overnight and into Wednesday.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible, with the heaviest amounts expected south of I-64 — including Beckley, Williamson, and Lewisburg. The system will continue through Thursday before tapering off late in the week.
Temperatures will remain seasonal, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and lows in the 40s. The rainfall will be beneficial to areas still experiencing moderate drought conditions, forecasters noted.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time during heavier rainfall periods midweek.
