Richmond, Virginia – Blistering heat and tropical humidity are set to return to Virginia this weekend, with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and heat index values expected to reach or exceed 105°F in some southern areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, heat advisories may be issued for regions south of Richmond if the heat index climbs higher, with the most intense heat likely confined to the southern part of the state. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible each day, especially Friday and Saturday, while Sunday could see more widespread scattered storms, particularly in the evening.

Cities including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Petersburg should prepare for isolated downpours, strong gusts, and brief delays on major routes like I-64 and I-95. Residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. If storms develop, seek shelter immediately and avoid flooded roadways.

Heat and storm threats will persist until at least Sunday night, with updates expected as new advisories are issued.
