Raleigh, N.C. – Drivers across central and eastern North Carolina may face dangerously low visibility this morning as dense fog blankets the region through 8 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, fog has developed along and east of the US-1 corridor, with the thickest areas impacting the Triangle, Sandhills, and northeast Piedmont. Visibility has dropped to one-quarter mile or less in spots, especially near Raleigh, Fayetteville, and Rocky Mount.

In southern Virginia and bordering North Carolina counties, the National Weather Service in Wakefield reports similar conditions stretching through Emporia, Suffolk, and Franklin. Visibility across these areas may remain between one-half and one-quarter mile until after sunrise.

Motorists traveling early Thursday should allow extra time, slow down, and use only low beam headlights. Sudden shifts in visibility along I-95, I-40, and NC-87 could increase crash risk during the morning commute.

If fog intensifies further, a Dense Fog Advisory may be issued. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 7 a.m., but localized dense pockets could linger longer in rural areas.

Stay tuned for updates, especially if traveling through fog-prone regions early today.
