St. George, Utah – A strong early-season system is expected to drop heavy snow across the high elevations of southern Utah beginning Saturday night, creating hazardous mountain travel and rapidly changing conditions through early Monday. Snow will be most intense above 9,000 feet, with lower-elevation routes feeling the effects by late Sunday as snow levels fall to around 7,000 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, snow bands will build late Saturday and continue into Sunday night, affecting the Markagunt Plateau, Boulder Mountain, and the Henry Mountains. UDPS and UDOT warn that sections of Utah Route 14 and State Route 143 may see slick or snow-covered pavement during the peak of the storm.

Communities including Cedar City, Panguitch, Brian Head, and areas near Bryce Canyon could experience reduced visibility and difficult travel on mountain passes. Drivers heading toward Brian Head Resort or traversing the high plateau should carry chains, pack warm layers, and avoid overnight trips if possible. Hunters and backcountry users are urged to monitor conditions and be prepared for sudden temperature drops.

Snow will taper early Monday, but NWS officials note additional advisories may be issued if colder air deepens or snow rates increase.
