Little Rock, Ark. – Torrential rain is expected to drench the Ozarks through Memorial Day, triggering flash and riverine flooding that could close roads and threaten homes across parts of Arkansas, Missouri, and surrounding states.

According to the National Weather Service, 2 to 6 inches of rain are likely through Sunday night, with localized totals over 8 inches in the higher terrain of the Ozarks. Flash flooding is expected to begin Saturday evening and worsen overnight as saturated ground increases runoff into creeks and rivers.

Cities such as Little Rock, Springfield, and Fayetteville are in the zone of heaviest rainfall, with nighttime storms raising the risk for flash floods. River flooding is also likely, especially in low-lying and urban areas, and could extend into early next week. The threat includes washed-out roads, flooded homes, and travel disruptions along I-40 and U.S. Route 65.

The National Weather Center urges residents to avoid non-essential travel, keep cell phones charged, and prepare for potential power outages. Emergency crews may face challenges reaching impacted areas due to rising waters.

Flood watches remain in effect through at least Monday, and additional alerts may follow as rainfall continues into the holiday weekend.
