Binghamton, New York – Snow and gusty north-northwest winds will continue across the Southern Tier and northeast Pennsylvania through Monday evening, keeping roads slick and visibility reduced during both commutes. While the most severe threat has eased in some areas, blowing snow could still create brief whiteout conditions overnight into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Otsego County in New York and Susquehanna County in Pennsylvania, where 3 to 7 inches of snow is expected. The previous Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled there. Steuben, Broome and Chenango counties in New York and Bradford County in Pennsylvania are also under advisories, with 2 to 5 inches forecast and wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph.

Across the region, snow-covered stretches of Interstate 81 near Binghamton, Route 17 in Broome County and Route 15 in Bradford County could become hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses. Gusty winds may loft freshly fallen snow, reducing visibility and creating drifting in open areas from Oneonta to Towanda.

The most difficult travel conditions are expected late Sunday night through the Monday morning commute, with slick spots lingering into the evening drive. Officials urge drivers to slow down and check 511NY or 511PA for updated road conditions.

Snow will gradually taper Monday afternoon, but gusty winds may continue to cause patchy blowing snow until the advisory expires at 7 p.m. Monday.
