Oklahoma City, OK – Residents across the Southern Plains may get another rare chance to witness the Northern Lights tonight, as the ongoing solar storm continues to push auroral activity far beyond its usual northern range. The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center reports that G3–G4-level geomagnetic storm conditions remain strong, making the Aurora Borealis visible across parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and southern Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, skies will remain mostly clear and mild this evening, offering excellent viewing conditions across much of the region. The best time to look will be after sunset through midnight, facing north and away from bright city lights.

Rural areas — especially in northern Oklahoma, southern Kansas, and western Arkansas — may have the highest visibility, while faint aurora bands could even reach as far south as Dallas and Fort Worth if solar activity remains strong.

Tonight’s temperatures will stay mild, ranging from the upper 40s to mid-50s, with highs climbing into the 70s and 80s through the weekend under continued dry, warm conditions. A cold front is expected early next week, bringing cooler air and increasing clouds.

If skies remain clear, tonight could bring another spectacular Northern Lights display to the Southern Plains — a phenomenon rarely visible this far south.
