Medford, OR – Heavy snowfall and strong winds are disrupting travel in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Forecasters warn of challenging conditions through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. Snow accumulations between 4 to 14 inches are expected in the Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, especially around Lake of the Woods and Crater Lake.
A Winter Storm Watch is also in place from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. Forecasters predict 9 to 24 inches of snow above 4,000 feet, with winds reaching 70 mph.
Travel could become extremely hazardous, particularly along highways 58, 230, 140, and 66. Motorists should expect slick roads, fallen trees, and power outages. Emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, are strongly recommended for those traveling.
Additional snowfall is expected in Western Siskiyou County, where mountain passes may see up to 17 inches by Wednesday.
