Medford, OR – A strengthening winter system along the Oregon and Northern California coastline will bring increasing snow to the region this weekend, with the heaviest impacts expected in Siskiyou County and around Mt. Shasta City.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, Saturday will bring lighter precipitation mainly west of the Cascades, with snow levels above 5,500 feet and only light mountain accumulation.
Conditions intensify Sunday into Sunday night. Heavier precipitation is forecast in Siskiyou County, where Mt. Shasta City could receive up to 1 foot of snow. Snow levels will hover near 5,500 feet before lowering to around 4,500 feet late Sunday night.
By Monday, moderate snow accumulation is expected across portions of southern Oregon and northern California mountains. Snow levels will vary across the region but trend downward as a cold front pushes through Monday night.
Colder air settles in Tuesday, dropping snow levels to around 1,500 feet, with some areas possibly seeing levels as low as 700 feet by Tuesday night. Valley snow accumulation is possible Tuesday into Wednesday, especially west of the Cascades, though confidence in significant totals remains limited.
Travelers heading over mountain passes, including Interstate 5 near Mt. Shasta, should prepare for winter driving conditions through early next week.
