Roseburg, Ore. – Residents across Douglas County will face worsening air quality through the weekend as wildfire smoke lingers, with health risks expected until at least Tuesday morning.
According to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, an air quality advisory remains in effect for eastern Douglas County, including Diamond Lake, Toketee Falls, Steamboat and Tiller. Smoke from nearby wildfires, combined with stagnant weather, could push air pollution into the unhealthy range through early next week.
Communities in Roseburg, Sutherlin, Umpqua and Green are likely to see fluctuating smoke levels that can worsen quickly with changing winds. Vulnerable groups such as children, older adults, pregnant people and those with lung or heart conditions are at the greatest risk. Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, stay indoors when smoke is heavy, and use certified HEPA filters to improve indoor air.
Drivers are also advised to be cautious, as reduced visibility is possible during periods of dense smoke along Highway 138 and nearby mountain routes. The DEQ recommends residents follow burn restrictions and limit use of indoor wood-burning stoves to keep conditions from deteriorating further.
Air quality alerts remain in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday, with updates posted at oregonsmoke.org.
