Medford, Ore. – Light showers are expected to return to southern Oregon late Friday night and into Saturday, bringing brief wet conditions before a stretch of summer heat builds across the Rogue Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a 40% chance of rain will hold through Saturday afternoon, with the best chance of showers arriving before 11 p.m. Skies will gradually clear by Sunday, setting the stage for a warm and dry pattern lasting through much of next week.
Saturday’s high will reach around 81 degrees, cooling to the low 60s overnight. By Sunday, drier conditions take over with highs climbing near 87. Monday will mark the start of a heat-up, as sunny skies push temperatures into the upper 80s, followed by low 90s Tuesday and mid-to-upper 90s by Wednesday.
Drivers may encounter slick roads Saturday morning, especially on local highways including I-5 near Grants Pass and Ashland. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavier showers and prepare for triple-digit heat later in the week by hydrating and limiting outdoor work during peak afternoon hours.
Clear skies and temperatures near 98 degrees are expected by Wednesday and Thursday, with little relief at night as lows only drop into the upper 50s and 60s. Additional heat advisories may be issued if the trend continues.
