Medford, OR – A prolonged stretch of rain is expected across southwestern Oregon beginning Sunday and lasting through Wednesday, with the heaviest rainfall anticipated Monday night into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.

The system will primarily affect Coos and Douglas counties, with secondary impacts in Curry County. Forecast totals range from 1 to 3 inches of rain, with the highest amounts in northwestern sections of the region and along coastal ranges.

While forecasters note that river levels remain well below normal for early December—limiting widespread flood concerns—residents should still prepare for ponding on roadways and rapid rises in smaller creeks and streams. Snow levels will remain high, around 7,000 to 9,000 feet, keeping most mountain passes free of snow but wet and slick.

Rain will continue on and off through midweek before tapering by Wednesday night, with drier conditions expected late in the week. Motorists should watch for standing water on coastal highways and use extra caution in heavy downpours.
