Medford, OR – A winter storm will impact southern Oregon this weekend, bringing a mix of rain and snow as February kicks off. Travelers should prepare for slippery roads, especially in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, snow levels will start around 6,000 feet Friday before dropping to 5,000 feet Saturday. The Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains could see over a foot of snow, making travel hazardous on I-5 near Siskiyou Summit and Highway 140. Those driving in the mountains should carry chains and allow extra time.

In Medford, steady rain is expected through Saturday, with highs in the low 40s. As colder air moves in Sunday, a rain-snow mix may reach lower elevations, creating icy roads overnight. By Monday night, snow levels could lower to 1,500 feet, increasing chances for light accumulation in the valleys.

Cool and unsettled weather will persist into next week, with additional rain and snow showers likely. Drivers should check road conditions and expect winter travel delays.
