Medford, OR – Extreme heat and increasing wildfire danger will grip southern Oregon on Tuesday, with highs expected to hit 105°F in Medford and surrounding Rogue Valley communities. The National Weather Service warns that both the temperature and fire risk will peak in the afternoon and early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 2 a.m. Wednesday for Jackson, Josephine, and eastern Curry counties. Overnight lows will stay in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering little relief from the heat. A Fire Weather Watch will also be in effect Tuesday afternoon through evening, with gusty northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph and humidity as low as 10 percent creating critical fire conditions.

Communities including Medford, Grants Pass, Jacksonville, and Ashland should limit outdoor activities during the hottest hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid sparks or open flames. Outdoor burning is prohibited, and residents should be ready to evacuate quickly if wildfires ignite.

Both heat and fire hazards are expected to ease slightly after Tuesday, though temperatures will remain in the upper 90s midweek. Officials urge residents to monitor alerts in case the Fire Weather Watch is upgraded to a Red Flag Warning.
