Medford, OR – Residents across southern Oregon should prepare for a cold night as frost and freezing temperatures are expected to develop overnight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.
Forecasters say clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop sharply across the Rogue, Illinois, Applegate, Shasta, and lower Klamath valleys. Areas near Medford and Grants Pass may see patchy frost, while outlying regions face a higher chance of a hard freeze.
According to the NWS, recent rainfall has left ample ground moisture, which may also lead to fog or low cloud formation overnight. The agency warns that frost and freeze conditions could damage crops, gardens, and other sensitive vegetation. Residents are advised to cover plants or bring them indoors to prevent potential losses.
The frost and freeze threat is expected to continue into early Monday morning, with another possible round of cold temperatures Monday night depending on sky conditions.
Motorists should also use caution during the early commute as patchy fog could reduce visibility in valley areas.
This marks one of the season’s first widespread frost advisories for southern Oregon, signaling a transition toward colder fall weather patterns.
