Medford, Oregon – Dangerous winter travel conditions are expected to develop across Siskiyou County and nearby portions of southern Oregon beginning Tuesday as two storm systems bring periods of heavy mountain snow through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the first storm moves in Tuesday and continues into early Wednesday. Heavy rain is expected at lower elevations, while moderate to heavy snow develops over higher terrain, particularly across Siskiyou County and southern Oregon mountain passes. Roads at elevation are likely to become snow-covered and slick, with visibility dropping during heavier snowfall.

A second, colder storm arrives Wednesday evening and lasts through Friday morning, increasing the threat for more significant snow impacts. Snowfall during this system will focus mainly above 4,500 feet, including Snowmans Summit and other high-elevation routes. Forecasters say snow levels could fall Thursday night, allowing snow to impact lower elevations in the Mount Shasta region and expand travel hazards.

Periods of heavy snow may significantly reduce visibility and make some mountain roads difficult or impossible to pass, especially in southern Siskiyou County. Chain restrictions and delays are likely on higher-elevation highways.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary mountain travel, carry winter survival supplies, and check road conditions before heading out. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as colder air settles in and snow impacts increase later this week.
