Medford, Oregon – Temperatures are expected to drop to near or below freezing late Thursday night, putting crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing at risk across southern Oregon and northern California.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from late Thursday night through Friday morning for Jackson and Josephine counties, including Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, and Cave Junction. Temperatures are forecast to fall between 28 and 32 degrees, cold enough to damage or kill sensitive vegetation.
In western Siskiyou County, including Happy Camp and Somes Bar, temperatures could drop even lower, ranging from 26 to 32 degrees in the Klamath River Valley, increasing the risk for widespread frost and freeze damage.
The coldest conditions are expected around sunrise Friday, when calm winds and clear skies allow temperatures to drop rapidly in valley locations.
Residents are urged to cover or bring in plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and take precautions to prevent damage. Agricultural interests should prepare for potential crop impacts.
The freeze threat will ease after sunrise Friday, but additional advisories could be issued if colder air lingers into the weekend.
