Medford, OR – Drivers across south-central Oregon and far northern California could encounter slick highways and reduced traction before sunset as light snow continues through 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. PST for Lake County and eastern Klamath County in Oregon, along with Modoc County in California. Snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected, especially across higher terrain and mountain passes.

Communities including Lakeview, Paisley, Bly and Chemult in Oregon, and Alturas, Adin and Likely in California, may see roads become snow-covered at times. Elevated routes such as Highway 140 at Warner Mountain Summit and Highway 239 at Cedar Pass are particularly vulnerable to slick conditions. Bridges and overpasses may freeze first as temperatures hover near freezing.

While snowfall totals are modest, even light accumulations can create hazardous travel in open, rural areas where wind and colder pavement temperatures persist.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check TripCheck in Oregon or QuickMap in California before traveling. Snow showers taper toward early evening, with improving conditions after 7 p.m., though isolated icy patches could linger overnight.
