Medford, OR – A cold weather and wind advisory has been issued for southern Oregon and northern California, lasting from Friday night through Sunday morning. Residents are urged to prepare for subzero wind chills and gusty winds.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisories will be in effect starting 10 p.m. Friday. The cold weather advisory will remain active until 10 a.m. Sunday, while the wind advisory ends at 10 p.m. Saturday. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as -13°F in areas like Klamath Falls, Lakeview, and Chemult, while wind gusts could reach 45 mph across exposed terrain and higher elevations.
The affected areas include the southern Oregon Cascades, Siskiyou Mountains, Modoc County, and Klamath Basin. Cities such as Crater Lake, Alturas, and Dorris are expected to experience the brunt of these conditions.
The NWS warns that prolonged exposure to the extreme cold could lead to hypothermia. Gusty winds may also cause minor power outages and make driving hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity, secure loose objects, and ensure pets are kept indoors. People with respiratory conditions should take precautions as stagnant air conditions persist through noon Friday in parts of Lake and Klamath Counties.
Plan travel carefully and stay updated on weather alerts.
