Medford, Oregon – A prolonged and dangerous stretch of extreme heat is headed for southern Oregon and far northern California starting Saturday, with temperatures climbing into the triple digits and posing a high risk for heat-related illness.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford and Eureka, an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through at least Monday evening for much of the interior, including Jackson County, Siskiyou County, and Humboldt Interior. Highs could reach 100 to 105 degrees, with heat index values near 100.
Communities such as Medford, Yreka, Grants Pass, and Happy Camp will be especially vulnerable. In California, the Del Norte and Humboldt interior zones will feel the worst conditions Saturday through Sunday evening, while Oregon’s heat may persist into Monday night.
Outdoor work and travel during peak afternoon hours are discouraged. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, use air conditioning when possible, limit sun exposure, and check on elderly neighbors and pets.
This marks the region’s first major heat wave of the summer. Additional heat advisories could be issued if temperatures rise further or persist into next week. Stay tuned to local alerts and updated forecasts.
