Durant, Okla. – Residents across southern Oklahoma should prepare for severe weather this evening as a thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday. Strong winds, large hail, and frequent lightning are possible as storms track across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch includes Atoka, Bryan, Johnston, Love, and Marshall counties. The most intense activity is expected between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., with storms capable of damaging straight-line winds over 60 mph.

Communities along U.S. Highway 69 near Durant and Madill could see brief power outages, while drivers on Interstate 35 through Love County may face reduced visibility from heavy downpours. Outdoor events in Tishomingo and surrounding towns may be disrupted as storms move through.

Emergency officials advise residents to move vehicles under cover to prevent hail damage and to avoid unnecessary travel if storms intensify. Mobile home residents should have a shelter plan ready in case warnings are issued.

The thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., with additional alerts possible if storms persist overnight.
