Las Cruces, NM – A Freeze Warning has been issued for much of southern New Mexico as temperatures are expected to drop to near 28 degrees overnight, threatening plants, crops, and unprotected pipes by Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, the warning covers Las Cruces, Deming, Truth or Consequences, and surrounding areas from midnight through 9 a.m. Monday. Residents in the Mesilla Valley, Mimbres Basin, and Sierra County Lakes region should prepare for subfreezing temperatures lasting several hours.
Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Officials recommend wrapping pipes, covering plants, and bringing pets indoors before temperatures plummet overnight.
Drivers should also use caution during early morning hours, as patchy frost may develop on bridges and shaded roads. This marks one of the first hard freezes of the season for parts of southern New Mexico.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and take precautions now to minimize damage from the cold.
