Southern New Jersey to Virginia – Scattered thunderstorms are expected today, spanning from southern New Jersey through Virginia, with rainfall amounts ranging between 1-2 inches in affected areas. High pressure will build in, leading to dry conditions from Friday through Sunday.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, today’s thunderstorms could bring localized heavy rainfall. Residents in the affected regions should prepare for potential minor flooding, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers and creeks. The thunderstorms are expected to be sporadic, so while some areas may see significant rainfall, others may remain relatively dry.
Starting Friday, a high-pressure system will establish itself over the Mid-Atlantic, ushering in dry and seasonable weather. This dry spell is anticipated to last through the weekend, providing relief from the stormy conditions. The weather service also notes that this period of dry weather should result in minor changes in river and creek levels, alleviating some of the flood concerns raised by today’s storms.
