Boston, Mass. – A soggy midweek pattern will settle over Massachusetts today, bringing widespread rain, cooler temperatures, and the threat of heavier downpours in parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Norton, rain is expected to move in after 2 p.m. Wednesday, spreading across the state and into neighboring Connecticut and Rhode Island. The heaviest bands are likely over western Massachusetts, with rainfall totals averaging 1.5 inches and localized amounts topping that. Southeastern Massachusetts, including the South Shore and Cape, could also see steady rain through tonight.
Travelers should prepare for slower commutes and reduced visibility on major highways including I-90, I-91, and I-95 during the evening drive. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation urges drivers to allow extra time and watch for ponding on roads.
Daytime highs will remain well below average, holding in the mid-60s inland and barely reaching the low 70s near Boston and the coast. The rain is expected to taper by Thursday morning, though lingering showers could persist along the south coast before drier air returns.
Additional updates will be issued if rainfall totals trend higher or localized flooding develops.
