Providence, Rhode Island – Rhode Island will heat up quickly this weekend, but the real threat arrives late Sunday as thunderstorms move across the region. Drivers, especially along I-95 and Route 6 near Providence, should stay alert for slick roads and reduced visibility from sudden downpours Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high of 83°F, followed by increasing clouds overnight. Storm chances rise sharply Sunday after 2 p.m., with southwest winds up to 10 mph pulling in unstable air. There’s a 40% chance of thunderstorms Sunday night, some of which could bring brief but intense rain.

While most of the state enjoys dry skies Friday into early Sunday, late-weekend plans may need adjusting. Outdoor events, travel, or late commutes Sunday night could be disrupted, particularly in Providence, Cranston, and along the I-295 corridor. Gusty winds are not expected to be severe, but localized street flooding remains possible.

Saturday night remains quiet, with mostly clear skies and lows in the mid-60s. But residents should stay weather-aware as atmospheric moisture increases. Monday clears up again with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s before another stretch of calmer weather begins next week.

Keep phones charged and weather alerts enabled through Sunday night. Additional advisories may be issued if storms strengthen.
