PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Overnight showers and patchy fog could slow Thursday morning commutes across Rhode Island, but drier and sunnier conditions are on the way to close out the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, a 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms will linger until early Thursday, with localized downpours possible. Fog will reduce visibility for morning drivers, especially along I-95 and coastal routes, before giving way to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 70s, offering a noticeable warmup.

Friday brings another dry and bright day, with highs near 79 degrees and comfortable northwest winds. The clear pattern continues into the weekend, with cooler mornings in the mid-40s and afternoons climbing into the upper 60s. Outdoor events and travel should see no significant weather disruptions.

Residents are encouraged to use caution during the morning commute Thursday, allowing extra travel time on foggy roads.

The stretch of sunny, seasonable weather is expected to last through early next week, though showers could return by Wednesday.
