Boston, MA – A powerful coastal storm is forecast to impact southern New England starting Sunday morning, bringing prolonged rainfall and gusty winds through at least Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Boston/Norton.

The latest NWS data show rainfall probabilities climbing above 90% across most of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut by early Monday, with widespread precipitation continuing into Tuesday. Areas like Nantucket, Hyannis, and Vineyard Haven are expected to see the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds, with gusts reaching 45 to 48 mph.

According to the forecast, wind gusts will increase late Sunday night, peaking Monday morning along the coast. Inland cities such as Worcester, Springfield, and Hartford may also experience gusts between 30 and 40 mph, with lighter but steady rainfall.

The NWS cautions that the storm could cause localized flooding, power outages, and travel delays, particularly along coastal routes and bridges. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Wednesday morning, though lingering showers and breezy conditions may persist.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, check for potential flooding, and monitor local forecasts for updates as the system moves north along the East Coast.
