Boston, MA – Hot, humid conditions are pushing heat index values near 100 degrees across much of southern New England Tuesday, prompting a widespread Heat Advisory through 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the advisory covers nearly all of Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and Rhode Island. It began early Tuesday morning and includes major cities like Boston, Worcester, Providence, and Hartford. In coastal areas such as New Bedford, Fall River, and Newport, the advisory started at 11 a.m.
Heat illness is a real risk in these conditions, especially for vulnerable groups like children, seniors, and those without access to air conditioning. Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and check in on neighbors who may need help.
In Massachusetts, the advisory stretches from Franklin and Middlesex counties to Barnstable on the Cape. In Rhode Island, every county is under the alert, including Washington and Newport. Commuters and outdoor workers should take frequent breaks and seek shade whenever possible.
While temperatures will ease overnight, more heat advisories could be issued later this week. Stay tuned to local emergency alerts and the National Weather Service for updates.
