Boston, Mass. – Much of Massachusetts faces a dangerous stretch of heat, with “feels like” temperatures soaring to 105°F in Boston and across southern New England through Wednesday night. Residents and outdoor workers are urged to take precautions as high humidity and air temperatures combine for oppressive conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through at least Wednesday evening. Highs will climb into the upper 80s to mid-90s, but the humidity will push the heat index into the 95-105°F range for communities including Worcester, Springfield, New Bedford, and Hyannis.
The extreme heat is expected to strain outdoor workers, residents without air conditioning, and vulnerable groups. Local officials are urging everyone to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink extra water, and check on neighbors who may be at risk. In Boston and Worcester, cooling centers are open. Travel could be impacted by overheated vehicles, and MBTA is monitoring rail service for heat-related issues.
This event marks one of the hottest stretches of 2025 so far, with heat indices not seen since last summer. Those planning outdoor activities should schedule them early or late and take frequent breaks.
The Heat Advisory is expected to last through Wednesday, but updates could follow if temperatures or humidity remain high.
