Boston, MA – A potent nor’easter continues to impact southern New England today, bringing periods of rain, gusty winds, and coastal flooding risks, according to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton.

Forecasters say additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected through Tuesday, mainly across Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts, while central and western Massachusetts and most of Connecticut will see much lighter totals — generally less than one-third of an inch.

Winds will remain strong, gusting 20–30 mph inland and up to 40 mph along the coast, making for hazardous marine conditions. The NWS warns that large waves and strong winds will create dangerous seas through Tuesday, along with minor coastal flooding around the Monday afternoon high tide.

Conditions are expected to improve Tuesday night into Wednesday as the storm system moves offshore and high pressure builds over the region.

Residents are urged to remain alert to coastal flooding advisories and use caution near shorelines and waterways during periods of high wind and surf.
